Home Runs and Ha Ha’s! | FFFW #33

LET’S GO HANK

On this day in history, in 1954, Hank Aaron hit his first home run in the MLB. He went on to do that many more times for a career total of 755 dingers. So, let’s all be inspired by that and hit today out-of-the-park! To quote the poet and philosopher Smash Mouth, “Hey now, you’re an all star. Get your game on, go play!” Let’s do this!

GAME TIME!

SHOULD YOUR FUNERAL HOME BE ON TIKTOK?

TikTok almost isn’t new anymore. It started getting mainstream in 2019 and built a massive user base during the pandemic. So with so many people being on a platform, shouldn’t you be there too?

Well, no… but yes. See, your demographic isn’t actively using TikTok enough to justify a large budget and time commitment to it. There’s also no way to target your content specifically to your community. So for the time being, you shouldn’t stress too much over this platform. That being said, adapting the trends to a funeral home would be amazing to see, and we here at the FFFW VERY MUCH support it. So, though you don’t HAVE to and it might not be SUPER beneficial, you should start making some Toks.

So what does work? Still, the best platform for reaching people 55 and up (your target demographic) is Facebook. And nobody manages funeral homes on Facebook as well as DISRUPT Media. If you’re interested in seeing high ROI through social media then you should see what all DM has to offer!

Best Overused Funeral Jokes

I’m coming up on my third year of working in the funeral profession. Now, let me clarify, I’m not a funeral director, apprentice, embalmer, cemetery operator or anything like that. I don’t even work in a funeral home, but by working with DISRUPT Media, and Connecting Directors I have interacted with TONS of the front-line workers and I do consider myself a part of the space.

That being said, I get told a lot of terrible jokes about funeral stuff from people outside of the profession, and I can’t imagine how many more wise-cracks are heard from those who work at the local funeral home. So, I did what I do best and made a list. Let’s go!

THE BEST OVERUSED JOKES THAT PEOPLE MAKE TO FUNERAL PROFESSIONALS THAT WE’RE TIRED OF HEARING.

  1. “I bet this pandemic has been really good for you.”
    FFFW Rating: 5/10

See, obviously this comment is made in a bit of poor taste. Like, a worldwide pandemic that kills people isn’t a great thing for anyone. However, I understand that we use humor to address difficult situations, and I don’t think anyone means any harm in saying this. Let’s be honest, morbid humor is still humor. So yeah, 5/10.

2. “Wow, people are dying to see you.”
FFFW Rating: 2/10

Everyone thinks they’re the first person to ever say this. It was funny the first time, but that was many moons ago – please be more creative.

3. Funeral Professional: “Welp, I gotta get back to work.”
Person: “Okay, have a good MOURNING!”
FFFW Rating: 10/10

Yes, it’s been said before, but it’s rare. This falls in the cool underground/indie radio level of funeral humor. When someone says this, they deserve appreciation. When this line is said, it means that their brain jumped right by or filtered out the “dying to see you” joke, and that, in my opinion, gets two thumbs up. If someone says this to you, hold them near, they are a special person.

COMIC OF THE WEEK

This profession attracts all kinds of people, and recently, mortuary schools look like they spent their advertising dollars at MCR concerts.

YOU OTTER BE PROUD

Let’s be honest, our profession gets a lot of negative press, so we’ve searched the internet to find stories of funeral things getting respect and doing great things!
