Cold Hands Embalming Tip of the Week: Hypo-Inject Cotton With Cavity Fluid and Place Under Eyelid After Embalming for Eye Enucleations
There are many avenues for success when treating eye tissue that has been procured. One pathway to successful preservation is to use a cavity filled syringe to hypo inject cotton and place under eyelid after embalming.
I apply the small piece of cotton under each eyelid (top and bottom) immediately after arterial embalming and set the feature just as I would like it to firm. I prepare a syringe with cavity fluid and hypo then cotton sparingly and slowly. Remove before dressing
Pro tips:
- ALWAYS utilize protection for this advanced technique before beginning
- I find that a “firming” cavity fluid works best
- Consider using “non fuming” solutions
- Cavity fluid with “bleaching” properties can also aid in cases of bruising or discoloration
- Apply massage cream on the cheek to prevent bleaching in unwanted areas of the face
- Do not over saturate
- Do not use a giant piece of cotton
Hope you like this week’s tip! Until next week…Happy Embalming!
