Established in 1939 as a modest casket jobber in the heart of Washington, D.C., Thacker Caskets has evolved into the largest family owned and operated casket supplier in the United States.
The journey began with Carl C. Thacker, who founded the company in 1939 to serve the greater Washington, D.C. market as a local funeral supply jobber. Despite his untimely passing in 1981, Carl’s legacy was carried forward by his wife, Audrey, and son, CJ Thacker. Together, they were unwavering in their commitment to realizing Carl’s dream, leading the company to unprecedented growth and success.
Reflecting upon the company’s past, Audrey said, “As I watch Thacker Caskets celebrate its 85th year, I am filled with pride and gratitude. This company has been a cornerstone of my life, and seeing it flourish even as I step back is a testament to the dedication and integrity that have been its foundation. While Audrey has since retired, Thacker is proudly operated by two generations of the Thacker family. This enduring legacy is a testament to their continuous innovation and dedication to the funeral industry. In addition, they have acquired several casket companies, allowing them to continue their growth, and they expanded into Texas this year as they opened their 17th distribution center. As Thacker Caskets looks to the future, they are excited to expand their product offerings with the introduction of two new casket lines, as well as the Impressions product line, which includes personalized casket panel inserts, casket lid art, and memorial portraits.
