We are excited to collaborate with Cold Hands and Monica Torres, renowned licensed funeral director, embalmer, cremationist, cosmetic reconstructive specialist, desairologist, and owner/founder of NXT Generation Mortuary Support! Every week Connecting Directors will now share “Cold Hands Embalming Tip of the Week,” which Monica posts each Sunday afternoon to her Instagram channel @coldhandshosts.

Cold Hands Embalming Tip of the Week: Eye Enucleation

Eye donation has become extremely common but it really is an easy fix and the body can absolutely still be viewed.

After embalming, I gently swab the eye 👁 socket with autopsy gel to cauterize the tissue compromised by the enucleation.

I let the autopsy gel work while I do cavity work or clean the embalming table. After some time has passed the tissue inside the eye socket is cauterized and ready for restoration and prosthetic.

Pro tip:

I liberally apply massage cream around the eye 👁 prior to swabbing with autopsy gel. Some autopsy gels have bleaching properties and the massage cream helps to control bleaching.

Hope you like this week’s tip!
