We received an email yesterday from Bryan Chandler, funeral director and owner of Chandler Funeral and Cremation Service in Caldwell, Ohio, who has on multiple occasions used a semi truck for a hearse. Yes a semi (without the trailer of course).

You are probably wondering where the casket goes and how it stays in place. To answer this question Bryan emailed us a few pictures.

Bryan emailed the following:

We created the device that mounts to the truck. Usually we use one of the deceased’s semi’s or one of their drivers. They were both business owners. We’ve done it twice now. The families loved it…

This leads us to ask; “What is the craziest thing you have ever used in place of a hearse?”

Not really crazy, but meaningful: We have used a fire engine a couple times for retired firefighters (not really original, but always a cool thing to do). We transported a retired military officer to the cemetery in the back of his own deuce and a half. Also pretty cool to do. We’ve used a horse drawn hearse once, too. Always be open to new ideas.

Used this the other day it was the grandson’s truck and one of the last rides his grandmother took.

Good to know we’re no the only ones – Flat-bed semi, fire trucks, horse drawn carriage. Had 87 wreckers show up and in procession for one that we carried on the back of a wrecker.
