Who Gives a Ship? Cargo Sales International, That’s Who

When you need to ship human remains out of the country or even out of state, it matters that your families’ loved ones are treated with care and respect and arrive on time, exactly where they’re meant to be. You have to trust that your transport provider will get it done, no matter what.

In other words, you want someone who actually gives a ship. And no one gives more than Cargo Sales International. Plus, they do it without charging a booking fee.

No Bullship

Cheryl Silvey may be one of the most straightforward individuals you’ll ever meet. Her grit, determination, and passion for what she does has aided her in her quest to better serve funeral directors around the country. The only time you will hear her say the word “NO” is when she says “NO problem”. It is this mindset that makes Cheryl, who has led the small but mighty Cargo Sales International team for 24 years, unstoppable when it comes to getting ship(ping) done right, no matter what.

Cargo Sales International’s no-bullship approach to the transportation of human remains has been evident from day one: give funeral directors the confidence to assure their families that a loved one’s final destination will be handled expeditiously and with the utmost care.

Knows Her Ship

Cheryl started out as a freight forwarder at JFK, following in the footsteps of her father who worked in the freight forwarding industry for 47 years. When she had the opportunity to relocate to south Florida, she funneled her 15 years of freight forwarding experience into a hard-won cargo partnership with an edgy new airline: JetBlue.

“I called [JetBlue] every day for two years and asked for the cargo manager,” she says. “For those two years I was told ‘We don’t do cargo. We don’t move human remains.’ One day I made the usual call and once again asked for the cargo manager, and much to my surprise, they passed me to THE cargo manager. I explained who I was, my ties to New York, and my ties with South America here in Miami.” After a lot of back and forth, Cheryl was awarded the general sales agency for JetBlue cargo.

After nearly more than a decade of helping turn JetBlue into a behemoth in the air cargo space, Cheryl saw an opportunity to expand her business to better serve the needs of families and funeral directors around the world. By laser focusing exclusively on the funeral care industry and being cognizant of all the pain points and difficulties of dealing with airline logistics, consulate documentation, and time spent making these arrangements, she believed that taking this responsibility off the plate of the funeral director would free up time and resources to assist with their families.

Thus, Cargo Sales International was born.

Getting Ship Done

Over the next 15 years, Cheryl built up the Cargo Sales International brand by knocking on the doors of Jewish funeral homes whom she knew from New York and explaining her no-nonsense methods of getting things done. By the time JetBlue discontinued cargo shipping in 2015, Cheryl had developed a national and loyal customer base who had become accustomed to her simplified, streamlined, and timely booking system. No longer were funeral directors forced to wait on hold with the airlines, spelling out names and addresses letter by letter. It was a welcome change to the industry and a breath of fresh air for the funeral director.

Today, Cargo Sales works with a full variety of international and domestic airlines and transportation providers. Cheryl and her team are intimately familiar with the offerings and limitations of each one, actively taking advantage of every opportunity to ensure that her client’s needs and requests are met. Cargo Sales’ ability to pivot in a heartbeat when embargoes go into place during the holiday season, handle crises at odd hours any day of the week, and be creative in routings and pricing have proven extremely beneficial to their customers. Not to mention, there is NEVER a booking fee.

Year over year, more and more funeral directors are entrusting Cheryl and her team with their ship outs both near and far. Cheryl prides herself on the number of one-time users who have evolved into lifetime customers; however, whether it’s your first call to Cargo Sales or 50th, you can always expect the same high-quality service.
