Self-Care for Funeral Professionals During the Holidays
WHEELING, IL— Finding work-life balance can be especially difficult at this time of year. Between holiday obligations, an already demanding career—and now a newly-developing “tri-demic”—taking time to care for yourself can seem impossible. Join Funeral Professionals Peer Support (FPPS) and the Cremation Association of North America (CANA) for a Peer Support Meeting to find a connection with people who “get it” on Tuesday, December 20, 8pm ET / 7pm CT/ 5pm PT.
“The funeral service industry is a unique profession. No one else does what we do,” says Christina Walton, the facilitator of our conversation in December. Christina will help you connect with your funeral professional peers, both to find support and to inspire others. “Knowing that we’re going through some of the same things is very validating. To lean on each other is very validating, which is part of peer support: to be validated. There’s strength in numbers, in knowing that ‘I’m not the only one struggling. I’m normal.’”
As a registered therapist specializing in bereavement and loss—and a licensed funeral director of 33 years—Walton can relate to the stress that is unique to a profession focused on caring for others. She will emphasize the importance of self-care for funeral professionals during this busy season.
