What Could Possibly Go Wrong in the Preproom?

WHEELING, IL—For many funeral professionals, the preproom is a favorite spot in the funeral home. It’s the place where they honor the dead and fulfill their promises to the grieving by caring for the body. However, the pressures of the job extend to every corner of the funeral home, including that special space. This March 15th, Funeral Professional Peer Support (FPPS) and the Cremation Association of North America (CANA) open the monthly peer support meeting with discussion geared toward what happens in the preproom.

Bill Sampson of Dodge Chemical Company Canada facilitates the March meeting. He’ll share some of his own experiences as a professional with more than a decade in the business. Bill has heard every story about what can go wrong in the preproom, and can address anxiety about the type of events that might jeopardize the trust of the community.

Be sure to join us for March’s peer support meeting as Bill Sampson leads discussion on the real and imagined challenges that keep funeral professionals up at night: things like misidentification and PPE mishaps. Even if you haven’t experienced these mishaps yourself, the chance that something could happen can add unnecessary stress to an already challenging job. Join Bill, FPPS Wellness Director Lisa Smith, and CANA to talk about these fears with your peers. Whether or not you have a particular pressing issue to discuss, the meetings are a valuable place to offer support to your colleagues, too!

If you work for a funeral home, cemetery, or crematory serving the public or supporting those who do—connect with us on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 8pm ET / 7pm CT / 5pm PT via Zoom link at goCANA.org/peersupport. Students, apprentices, and interns are welcome to join as well.
