Cybersecurity Awareness: Recognizing a Threat, and Protecting Your Data

Secure Your Digital Operations at the CANA Convention

WHEELING, IL— In many cases, the technological solutions that funeral businesses adopted to serve families during social distancing have now become core processes critical to our productivity and success. Unfortunately, this increasingly online business also makes our work more vulnerable to cyber threats. Enter Lee Hovermale. A cybersecurity expert, Lee takes the stage at the Cremation Association of North America’s 106th Cremation Innovation Convention, September 11-13, 2024 in Chicago. He’ll help attendees navigate the online world with confidence.

In today’s digital age, the threat of a personal or business cyberattack looms over all of us. You can take a proactive stance against cyber threats and learn how to identify phishing attacks and malware schemes to be better prepared to safeguard your data. In his session, Cybersecurity Awareness: Recognizing a Threat, and Protecting Your Data, Lee Hovermale will empower you with information you can use to access the internet securely and protect yourself and your company.

“Cybercriminals are constantly looking for ways to steal, compromise, or destroy your data, and they often target small businesses that have fewer resources and security measures than larger organizations,” explains Lee Hovermale. He warns that, on top of ransom and fees, the cost of such invasions often include loss of customer trust and organizational productivity to the tune of more than $8,000 per hour.

Lee Hovermale is currently the Strategic Advisor to the CEO of KiZAN Technologies and has over 30 years of experience in cybersecurity and 15 years in compliance. His cybersecurity experience comes from his time in the Navy and in a federal government agency. He discovered a new software line that optimizes and manages the cost of cloud-based workloads (Azure, AWS, and Google). He brings the full force of his experience to the CANA stage to help you safeguard your data.

Innovative sessions are the core of every CANA Convention, and Lee is joined by:

  • Choosing to be a better leader for your team, your business, and yourself in Being a Leader of Influence with Robbie Pape, Senior Vice President & Regional Partner, Carriage Services.
  • By popular demand, Sara Murphy, PhD, FT, Death Educator & Suicidologist with the University of Rhode Island, returns with Recognizing and Responding to Suicide Risk Within the Deathcare Profession.

Dr. Sara Murphy also leads a special pre-Convention workshop with Aaron Pelchat, a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist. Together, they’ll say the quiet part out loud on The Silent Problem: Talking about Mental Health and Funeral Service. Their workshop will help us understand realities of common mental health issues – think compassion fatigue and burnout – unpack the challenges to self-care and discover therapeutic tools for improving mental health. Registration is available separately from the Convention or as an add-on!
