Cold Hands Embalming Tip of the Week: Utilize Fluid Bottles to Assist in Rolling a Deceased Loved One Off the Prep Table
Protect your back! It’s a well known fact that morticians often suffer with back problems due to injuries commonly related to lifting and moving dead human bodies.
Since I am vertically challenged and have limitations due to my physical size I have learned do utilize different methods to move bodies while protecting my back and neck at work. One of the methods I use is utilizing round bottles of fluid to help the inertia of moving dead weight.
Obviously proper lift equipment or an extra hand is always the best option but I am often alone while embalming and some prep rooms are so small that lift equipment is not accessible. If you are a person of small stature this may work for you!
Pro tip: Use bottles that are empty or try to use bottles of non toxic chemicals such as water corrective or humectant
Pro tip: Spray the embalming table with water or spray liberally with disinfectant before rolling the body
This little tip has helped me in many instances. Hope you like this week’s tip! Until next week, Happy Embalming!
