Peer Support Meeting with Dr. Jason Troyer

WHEELING, IL— We’re back! Funeral Professionals Peer Support (FPPS) and the Cremation Association of North America (CANA) welcome Dr. Jason Troyer as facilitator of the first peer support meeting of 2022. Connect with your peers and chat with Jason on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 8pm ET / 7pm CT / 5pm PT. This virtual meeting means that you can join us from any device, wherever you are!

“As a psychologist who works with funeral homes, and also works in one, I want to offer several suggestions for dealing with the additional stress created by the current epidemic,” said. Dr. Troyer,  a grief expert, author, former psychology professor, and therapist. During the January meeting, Dr. Troyer will review specific strategies to heal from the challenges of the profession and the lingering emotional stress we all feel.

A specialist in helping death care professionals serve their families better, Dr. Troyer  has been talking with many funeral professionals across the country. ”The most consistent reactions I hear include sadness,” he explained “Funeral professionals are feeling sad that we haven’t been able do our job the way we would like, but please know that you continue to provide an invaluable service. You may not be able to give someone a hug, but your simple presence and compassion (even if expressed through a video chat) are still a vital service.”

Even if you don’t have a pressing issue to discuss, the meetings are a valuable place to offer support to your colleagues, too. You can find a community of peers and share your own experience as a means to assist others. Whether you work for a funeral home, cemetery, or crematory serving the public or supporting those who do—connect with us on Tuesday, January18, 2022 at 8pm ET / 7pm CT / 5pm PT via Zoom link at goCANA.org/peersupport. Students, apprentices, and interns are welcome to join as well.
