DEERFIELD, ILL. — Selected Independent Funeral Homes Educational Trust announced the recipient of the 2020 scholarship to the Selected Leadership Academy. This scholarship, valued at more than $5,000, was generously sponsored by a grant from Homesteaders Life Company.

Wes Elmes, Funeral Director and Certified Funeral Celebrant for Haskett Funeral Homes Ltd. of Lucan, Ontario had this to say about being chosen for this prestigious award, “Wow, wow, wow is all I can say. Thank you so much for this. I feel so honoured to be awarded this scholarship.”

This Trust scholarship provides the recipient with full two-year tuition plus an annual stipend to participate in the Selected’s Leadership Academy, a unique and rewarding educational opportunity offered exclusively to Selected Independent Funeral Homes’ members. The Academy is a personalized journey for those, no matter title or position, who believe their leadership matters and choose to become better.

“It’s a big commitment on the part of the participant,” stated Bea Pedersen, the Trust’s Executive Director, “not only financially, but particularly with regard to the amount of time each class member commits to. But the reward is equally great. We are honored to be able to assist these dynamic professionals with this opportunity to grow and lead. And we are deeply grateful to Homesteaders Life Company for making this fantastic scholarship possible.”
