Selected’s 2019 NextGen Seminar Topics: Shift Mindsets & Connected Technology Strategy

DEERFIELD, ILL. – Selected Independent Funeral Homes’ 2019 NextGen Seminar will be held on January 27-31, 2019 at the Club Med Turkoise, Turks and Caicos Islands.

Selected Independent Funeral Homes created the NextGen program to bring together young funeral professionals, as well as those new to the profession. The four-day NextGen Seminar, held annually, offers educational and networking sessions for its participants. This year’s Seminar will feature three dynamic speakers.

Jennifer Moss of Bliley Funeral Homes, VA and Becky Lomaka of O’Connor Mortuary, CA will co-lead the session “Community Outreach and Business Growth: Thinking Outside the Box,” demonstrating not only how to offer innovative and engaging external outreach programs but also how to create better understanding and support of those programs among the internal funeral home staff team.

Marguerite Ham will lead  the session “Self, Staff Team, Client Families: How They All Matter,” that will explore how individuals, staff team and client families all factor into the equation of a healthy, thriving, effective funeral business by examining areas such as personality styles, burnout and stress, effective communication, generational differences, emotional intelligence and more.

Following both presentations, special “Speakers Unplugged” sessions will allow ample time for speakers to address questions as well as engage in open discussion with participants. In addition, participants will have a chance to address the issues that matter most to them during the “Best Practices Exchange” session facilitated by NextGen Co-Chairs Laura Starks and Olivia Starks.

During the Seminar, Selected also will recognize the recipient of the 2019 NextGen Professional of the Year Award which highlights career achievements, community/organization involvement and awards/achievements of funeral professionals under the age of 50.

“The NextGen Seminar gives me a lot of content,” said Josh Blake of Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home in Waco, TX. “I’m able to take these conversations back home, apply these ideas and share them with our staff.”

The 2019 NextGen Seminar is sponsored in part by Kelco Supply Company.
