Funeral Service Foundation Now Accepting Online Academic Scholarship Applications

The Funeral Service Foundation is now accepting online academic scholarship applications at FuneralServiceFoundation.org. The annual awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 per scholarship, and are intended for the fall term. Full- and part-time students enrolled in ABFSE-accredited mortuary science programs are encouraged to apply online by the August 15, 2016 deadline.

Since 1945 the Funeral Service Foundation has fueled the careers of more than 6,000 funeral service professionals in alignment with its mission to fund projects and programs that support all of funeral service in building meaningful relationships in the community.

“Scholarships have been a Foundation cornerstone for three generations because our supporters understand that all students of funeral service deserve access to a great education,” said Foundation Executive Director Danelle O’Neill.  “Our donors believe that an investment in these upcoming leaders is an investment in the future of funeral service.”

The Foundation currently offers the Joseph E. Hagan Memorial Scholarship, the Memorial Classic Golf Tournament Scholarship, the Dennis Schoepp Memorial Scholarship and the Shipley Rose Buckner Memorial Scholarship. The Foundation also promotes the Brenda Renee Horn Memorial Scholarship in partnership with the SCI National Scholarship Program.

The online application process includes an essay component, and, new this year, a brief video submission. Comprehensive submission instructions, eligibility requirements and scholarship terms and guidelines are available at FuneralServiceFoundation.org.

“It’s our honor to award these annual scholarships to first-time students as well as those who are looking to start a new career,” said Foundation Trustee and Scholarship Committee Chair Stephanie Kann. “The dual-component application process allows us to really understand the candidates and gives applicants ample opportunity to showcase their passion and dedication to serving families in need.”

In addition to its academic scholarship offerings, the Foundation awards continuing education scholarships for NFDA’s annual Professional Women’s Conference and has funded the association’s Meet the Mentors program since its beginning in 2011.
