Do You Want To Be In The Record Books?
Open letter to all Funeral Directors.
Hello, last year ‘Connecting Directors’ posted an article about our hearse club, Just Hearse’N Around, and our attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the Largest Hearse Parade. We are happy to report that we did in fact establish a world record (new category for Guinness) with 51 hearses. We were able to accomplish this with 50 private owners, and only one funeral director participating.
It is interesting that in the United States, funeral directors seem to take a dim view on “recreational” uses of funeral coaches. Maybe they feel that we are being disrespectful for the industry? On the contrary, we have the utmost respect for the funeral industry and the services you provide to families. We also have an appreciation for funeral coaches, and the reactions from the public, and the healthy dialog and discussions that we spawn. It is important to show that funerals and coaches are not scary things, or to be feared.
In August of this year, a group of funeral directors (no private owners) in the Netherlands broke our record with 107 coaches. They were able to view their event as a positive thing, and used it to help promote their industry.
On September 15, 2012, we will be attempting to bring the record back to the United States, where it belongs, but we can’t do it alone. We are inviting all funeral homes and directors in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana to join us in our celebration of one of the most interesting and thought provoking vehicles every created! Sincerely,
Steve Frey
