Nov 30, 2015 – EVANSTON, IL – Legacy.com, the Internet’s leader in obituaries and related services, is shining a spotlight on memorial giving this year. Kicking off on Giving Tuesday, December 1st, 2015and extending for the full calendar month, donations made through www.legacy.com/charity will be doubled up to $50,000.

Steve Parrott, President and CEO of Legacy.com shares, “We believe in the good work our charity partners are doing and have had very strong relationships with a wide range of charities around traditional giving from obituaries. This event is an opportunity for us to double up our support for our charity partners as we remember the people who made a difference in our lives.”

Braden Lay-Michaels, Chief External Relations Officer at StoryCorps, adds, “StoryCorps and Legacy.com bring life stories to future generations. As StoryCorps is an independently funded organization, memorial donations make it possible for us to collect and preserve the stories of our common human history. We are thrilled to partner with Legacy.com to advance our shared mission to honor the lives of everyone.”

Legacy.com has been our partner in making memorial donations easy for many years now,” said Andrew Magnuson, National Director of Digital Fundraising at American Heart Association. “We welcomed the opportunity to be an inaugural partner for their first match event.”

Families that visit Legacy.com often choose to support a meaningful charity or cause as a way of doing good in memory of loved ones. During the month of December, those efforts will be doubled up to an event-wide total of $50,000 through a direct donation from Legacy.com to participating charities. From charities like Marines’ Memorial Association to the Funeral Service Foundation this matching event provides a new opportunity to grow their memorial giving.

At the heart of StoryCorps is a simple, timeless idea: provide two friends or loved ones with a quiet space and 40 minutes of uninterrupted time for a meaningful face-to-face conversation; record that conversation; give participants a copy of their interview; and archive another copy at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress where it will be preserved for generations to come.
