image A Long Island woman who went to leave flowers at her son’s grave found a new body on top of his coffin instead.

Nicole Pailliere was visiting Greenfield Cemetery in Uniondale on Tuesday when she spotted fresh flowers and disrupted soil around her son Mallory’s tombstone.

“They buried somebody on top of my son by mistake,” said Pailliere, 63, a registered nurse. “He was my firstborn. It’s like reopening an old wound.”

The distraught woman ran to the cemetery’s office, but said employees couldn’t give her an acceptable excuse.

“They told me nothing,” Pailliere said. “They said they’re going to fix it.”

Efforts to reach the cemetery were unsuccessful, but the mistake was likely due to a clerical error, according to newspaper reports.

Pailliere said she visits her 27-year-old son’s grave every month, and regularly cleans and decorates it around holidays and his birthday.

The 12th anniversary of his death is Friday , she said.

The other person, who was buried Nov. 7, has not been identified because his family has not yet been contacted about the mistake, reports said.

The man’s remains were removed on Thursday and put in their rightful place several plots away, Pailliere said.

The woman, who has one remaining child, was frustrated by the media coverage of her son and his death.

“I don’t want this kind of attention,” she said.”It’s a second trauma – losing your child and having someone play with his remains,” she added. “I never got over my son’s death.”
