Brookfield, Wis. – The National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) has released the first-ever Spanish-language translation of the profession’s premier embalming text book “Embalming: History, Theory, and Practice” by Robert G. Mayer.

“NFDA is pleased to provide funeral professionals who speak Spanish with an embalming textbook in their native language,” said NFDA Vice President of International Relations Deborah Andres. “This is the first text of its kind in Spanish and meets an important need in Central and South America and other parts of the world.”

Mayer’s textbook, which is currently in its fifth edition, has been a trusted textbook for generations of embalmers. The book covers the history of embalming; explains embalming theory; and describes present practice, including the latest trends, restorative arts and mortuary cosmetology.

The fifth edition also covers topics such as creating a safe working environment; preparation and preservation without the use of standard embalming chemicals; conditions and causes of death that influence the embalming process; preparation of organ and tissue donors; and embalming for shipping.

“Embalsamamiento: Historia, Teoría y Prâctica” by Robert G. Mayer can be purchased through NFDA at a special introductory price of $124.95 USD (regular price: $146.95 USD). To order the book, funeral professionals should call NFDA at +1 262-798-1880 and ask to speak with International Member Services Representative Rose Pena; the text can also be ordered online through the NFDA Resource Store, www.nfda.org/resourcestore.

NFDA is the world’s leading and largest funeral service association, serving 19,700 individual members who represent more than 10,000 funeral homes in the United States and 39 countries around the world. NFDA is the trusted leader, beacon for ethics and the strongest advocate for the profession. NFDA is the association of choice because it offers funeral professionals comprehensive educational resources, tools to manage successful businesses, guidance to become pillars in their communities and the expertise to foster future generations of funeral professionals. NFDA is headquartered in Brookfield, Wis., and has an office in Washington, D.C. For more information, visit www.nfda.org.

This is not the first Embalming Text in Spanish. 4 books, including one about formaldehyde, embalming chemistry, theory and practice has been published in Puerto Rico since 2005.
