SELDEN, N.Y. ? Authorities have found 22 more animal carcasses buried in a Long Island backyard. A month ago, 20 dead dogs were uncovered there.
Roy Gross of the Suffolk County SPCA says authorities returned to Sharon McDonough’s home in Selden. He did not say whether the newly uncovered carcasses were dogs or cats.
Gross says it’s unlikely that the dead dogs found last month had been stolen. That was the initial fear of neighbors whose pets vanished.
McDonough has pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty. Officials say more charges are possible. She lost custody of her six youngest children following her arrest last month.
Her attorney did not immediately return a message left by The Associated Press.
McDonough’s adult son turned her in. He claims the animals were tortured.
