Gather, a developer of funeral home software and website design, has released a new WordPress obituary plugin. The plugin connects a funeral home’s WordPress website directly to Gather’s platform and embeds live obituary content without requiring custom engineering.

The tool allows funeral homes to insert recent obituaries into any existing web page and provides each obituary with its own fast-loading page at /obituaries/ under the funeral home’s own domain name. Firms can feature the complete Remember Page experience, which includes photos, guestbooks, memorial candles, and live streams hosted directly on their primary site.

Features and Functionality

Gather’s WordPress plugin offers several built-in functions to improve site navigation and engagement. It includes an Obituary Carousel that displays a scrolling band of recent obituaries on the homepage, along with a searchable and filterable Obituary Directory. Site visitors can also sign up for ObituaryNotifications to receive email alerts whenever a new obituary is posted.

To help search engines find and index obituaries under the funeral home’s primary domain, the plugin features built-in search engine optimization, including an automatically updated obituary sitemap and crawlable markup.

Availability and System Requirements

The plugin is designed to integrate into a funeral home’s existing WordPress setup. It requires a WordPress website running version 6.0 or higher and an active Gather account.

Funeral home operators can start using the tool by requesting an integration key from their Gather representative. More details are available at https://gather.app/wordpress-plugin/.
