We are excited to collaborate with Cold Hands and Monica Torres, renowned licensed funeral director, embalmer, cremationist, cosmetic reconstructive specialist, desairologist, and owner/founder of NXT Generation Mortuary Support! Every week Connecting Directors will now share “Cold Hands Embalming Tip of the Week,” which Monica posts each Sunday afternoon to her Instagram channel @coldhandshosts.

Cold Hands Embalming Tip of the Week: Keep Lashes Dry and Separated During Embalming

Many times the little cosmetic touches that matter most get overlooked. They say that the eyes are the window to the soul but in death the eyes close that curtain and the eyelashes take main stage.

For those NOT needing application of false strip lashes:

During the embalming process it is SUPER DUPER important to disinfect the eyes and swab them out with a product such as Drywash. Follow up by using a antibacterial or germicidal soap and gently clean the eyelashes with a washcloth. Be conscious and focus on breaking rigor at the root of eyelashes.

Pro tip:

Use a dry cloth to separate the lashes and continue embalming. If the eyelashes get wet during the embalming continue to address the eyelashes and keep them dry and separated in a natural position.

Things to Remember:

  • The eyelids abut and do not overlap in life
  • Hair is comprised of protein which is coagulated when it come is contact with formaldehyde. The eyelashes will fixate in whatever position you leave them in.

Hope you enjoy this sweet li’l Desairology tip! Happy Embalming!
