The Cremation Association of North America (CANA) is pleased to announce the results of its recent Board of Director elections. During the 98th Annual Convention, August 10 – 12, 2016, at the Chicago Downtown Marriott Magnificent Mile, CANA’s membership elected one new director and retained three others. Several board members also advanced into new officer positions. CANA’s progressive, forward-thinking momentum is sure to continue with the installation of its new board.

W. Scott Smith Joins the Leadership

W. Scott Smith, President of All Texas Cremation/Heritage Crematory in Plano, Texas, was elected as a new director during the Membership Meeting on Thursday, August 11. Elisa C. Krcilek, John Bayliff, and Scott Hunter—whose terms expired this year—were retained on the board.

CANA Board Officer Advancement

Timothy R. Borden of Louisville, Kentucky is CANA’s new President. Tim is Founder and President of Borden Mortuary Group in Louisville, Kentucky. The association’s President-Elect is Michael Sheedy, Market Director for Service Corporation International (Canada) out of Ottawa, Ontario. CANA’s First Vice President and Treasurer is Mitch Rose, CEO and President of The Woodlawn Cemetery in New York. Elisa C. Krcilek of Mountain View Funeral Homes and Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona, is now the Second Vice President.

CANA Executive Director Barbara Kemmis is eager to continue CANA’s ambitious development of educational opportunities, programs, studies, and member benefits under the leadership of the 2016-2017 board. “Our board is famous for its energy, creativity, and wisdom regarding all things cremation, including business and industry best practices,” she said. “Guided by our newly revised and updated strategic plan, these seasoned experts will perfectly shepherd the association through the year ahead.” More information about CANA and the new board can be found on the association’s website at www.CremationAssociation.org.
