CANA Expands Access to Online and On-Demand Crematory Operations Certification

WHEELING, IL— The Cremation Association of North America’s Online Crematory Operations Certification Program (CANA COCP™) is now available in French and Spanish! Developed for our increasingly diverse workforce, CANA’s certification expands access to cremation best practices for flame and water cremation through professional translations to the most common languages in North America.

Each year, more than 1,500 crematory operators, owners, managers, funeral directors, cemeterians, and mortuary science students receive their CANA COCP certification. CANA has offered its interactive, on-demand certification online since 2017, providing a convenient self-paced version that’s perfectly designed to accommodate busy schedules. Now, Spanish- and French-language professionals can get CANA certified on their schedule, from their device, and in their preferred language.

Working closely with la Corporation des Thanatologues du Québec (CTQ), the CANA COCP was first translated in 2016 to offer in-person training to French-speaking crematory operators. In 2023, the online program was professionally translated into both French and Spanish, with guidance from funeral professionals on technical terms and jargon to ensure maximum comprehension. In any language, CANA’s Online COCP goes beyond a recorded webinar to make the participant an active learner and move through the training at their pace.

“CANA leads the industry in new ways of teaching the funeral profession,” remarked Denis Desrochers, Past President of CTQ, CANA Second Vice President, and head of Grégoire Desrochers in Victoriaville, Québec. “This investment in forward-thinking and innovative solutions will support the development of the cremation professionals of today and in decades to come.”

The Spanish- and French-language COCP Certification meets the certification requirement of 19 states and fulfills CE obligations in many states and provinces. However, most professionals choose to earn their CANA Certification voluntarily. Crematory owners and operators across North America recognize the relevance and value of the CANA COCP for the technical, scientific, and legal expertise they need to run their business.
