OGR Foundation opens scholarship applications Oct. 15
$10k total is available for this year’s recipients
INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 14, 2022) – The Order of the Golden Rule Foundation’s board of directors is excited to open the application window for the 2023 Awards of Excellence scholarship program this Saturday, Oct. 15.
A total of $10,000 will be given away to nine mortuary science students who distinguish themselves in academic performance, community involvement and an essay exemplifying a commitment to serving grieving families with compassion, fairness and dignity.
“I am ever grateful to the OGR Foundation for their support through the Awards of Excellence scholarship,” said Kieron A. Keegan, who recently graduated from Humber College in Toronto. He was also the recipient of the OGR Foundation’s 2022 Silver Award of Excellence. “Although the financial component of the scholarship I received was invaluable, the opportunity to attend the annual conference and connect with so many established funeral professionals who share my values and ideals is something I will value for many, many years to come.”
This year’s available scholarships include:
- 1 Gold Award of Excellence: $3,500, plus complimentary registration to OGR’s 2023 Annual Conference May 3-4 in Indianapolis, including up to 2 nights of lodging at the host hotel, The Conrad (up to $1,500 of additional value)
- 1 Silver Award of Excellence: $2,000
- 2 Bronze Awards of Excellence: $1,000 each
- 5 OGR Awards of Excellence: $500 each
The application window is being opened earlier than normal this cycle to give the top recipient – and any others who wish to attend OGR’s Annual Conference – more time to make arrangements. All scholarship recipients who are able to attend will be recognized as part of the Golden Circle Celebration Dinner.
The application is available online at OGR.org/Scholarship23. Applications will be accepted from Oct. 15 through Dec. 14.
Scholarships are funded by donations to the OGR Foundation, the charitable arm of the Order of the Golden Rule and a registered nonprofit under IRS Tax Code 501(c)(3). Its mission is to fund, perform and/or support activities on behalf of OGR that advance the standards of funeral service or contribute to the compassionate care of individuals in need.
