Cold Hands Embalming Tip of the Week: Battle Cavity Odor With an Essential Oil Compound That Absorbs Moisture and Preserves
Eco embalming and eco friendly treatments for unembalmed bodies is an exciting arena of exploration!
It’s true that the preservation qualities of eco friendly options do not compare in longevity of preservation of traditional formaldehyde but the low impact on my lungs and the pleasant aromas for families can’t be beat.
There is an impressive overall ecobalming action with absorption capability that I find confidence in. The leak protection/prevention is undoubtedly available but the smell of the compound is what really drives my obsession with these types of products. The 8% active plant-derived essential oil-based chemostasis chemicals provide the most AMAZING essence of clove and possibly cinnamon which is a much better smell than most other embalming deodorizers on the market. Plus the sanitation is evident.
Sadly some of the deodorizers remind me of toilet bowl cleaner. Maybe it’s just me, but in the case my own loved one is being embalmed I truly prefer they don’t smell like commercial bathroom deodorizers. Just sayin…
It’s no secret that aromatherapy plays a big part in reducing stress associated with grief and this is just another way for me to impact my families in a subtle but meaningful way.
I love all the low fuming and low impact eco embalming products that are available and have had great success with Enigma Compound used the following way:
Pro Tip
To battle odor while lowering my exposure during autopsy repair for decedents with disposition of a 4 days or less I cauterize tissue with my traditional supergel and sprinkle a liberal amount of Enigma Eco Embalming Compound in the flaps and cavity
