Cold Hands Embalming Tip of the Week
We are excited to collaborate with Cold Hands and Monica Torres, renowned licensed funeral director, embalmer, cremationist, cosmetic reconstructive specialist, desairologist, and owner/founder of NXT Generation Mortuary Support! Every week Connecting Directors will now share “Cold Hands Embalming Tip of the Week,” which Monica posts each Sunday afternoon to her Instagram channel @coldhandshosts.
Cold Hands Embalming Tip of the Week: Project sunken eyes with firming feature builder
Sunken eyes can reasonably distort the appearance of the decedent but it isn’t difficult to correct. When I want to preserve eye tissue that has not been preserved through arterial embalming, I use firming feature builder to recreate the natural appearance of the eye after death.
I insert the needle between the inner canthus and the medial side where the eyelids abut. I use care when inserting the needle as I do not want to inject into the lacrimal fossa which is better known as the tear duct.
Approximately 1 inch down I plunge and gently aspirate my syringe on the way out. Only a tiny amount of feature builder is needed and I use care as to not overfill the area.
Pro tip
Use a “fast set” firming feature builder opposed to “regular” feature builder for optimum preservation.
Hope you like this week’s tip! Until next week Happy Embalming!’
