#RIPeanut: Mr. Peanut Dead at Age 104; Services Scheduled for Super Bowl Sunday
Planters has confirmed the death of its 104-year-old mascot Mr. Peanut. He died from injuries sustained in a January 22 fiery NUTmobile accident.
Uninjured in the accident were actors Wesley Snipes and Matt Walsh, whose lives Mr. Peanut valiantly sacrificed his own to save. The beloved mascot’s demise was conveniently captured in the following footage:
The world reacts
Upon Planters’ announcement via The Estate of Mr. Peanut’s Twitter account, the Twittersphere promptly went nuts. Clever condolences poured in from all over the world.
Honoring the nutty life of Mr. Peanut
Memorial services for Mr. Peanut will be available during the third quarter of Super Bowl LIV in the form of a Planters commercial. Fans left to mourn the nutty icon are encouraged to watch out for the NUTmobile (obviously a backup NUTmobile, as the original was roasted in the January 22 accident). Mourners who approach the NUTmobile leading up to and on game day will receive a commemorative pin celebrating Mr. Peanut’s long, salty life.
Planters and its parent company Kraft-Heinz have yet to announce Mr. Peanut’s method of disposition, although we suspect CREAMation to be most appropriate. Mourners are encouraged to pay tribute to Mr. Peanut on social media with the hashtag #RIPeanut in lieu of flowers. You are also welcome to purchase Planters peanuts in a limited edition commemorative can (while supplies last).
