Welcome to the two-hundred-and-thirty-ninth edition of Morticians’ Monday Morning Mashup, 4M #239, where we’ll serve up bite-sized, easily-digestible nuggets of the deathcare news you need to crush conversations in the week ahead. Bon appetit!

Retirement ride

Tim Bachman may be one of the most interesting men in funeral service. A partner in Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Bachman will soon retire after 40 years in deathcare. But it’s not clear if he’s retiring from his second gig — as Bubbles the Clown, a role he takes on as part of the local Shriners group. And what’s he most looking forward to doing post-retirement? Taking his Indian motorcycle on weeks-long trips, worry-free and not on call.

A Pre-Need Program You Don’t Have to Manage Alone

Building a successful pre-need program takes more than intention.

It takes people, systems, and consistent execution.

Treasured Memories provides a complete, managed approach:

  • Counselor recruitment, hiring, and training
  • Educational programs like PreNeed University
  • Community outreach and Lunch & Learns
  • Aftercare support and ongoing family engagement
  • Direct mail marketing and contact management tools

All designed to help you:

  • Expand your reach in the community
  • Increase market share
  • Build a reliable pipeline of future business

This isn’t just a service offering.

It’s a structured, supported path to long-term growth.

No plot for you

Talk about exclusive neighborhoods … Authorities in Pompano Beach, Florida have voted to limit the sale of plots in the city cemetery to “locals only” — meaning if you can’t prove that you or a close family member live within the city limits, you can’t buy a space. This move comes after someone purchased 32 plots in a single transaction, perhaps to resell at a premium as available real estate in the cemetery is becoming scarce. Commissioners are refining the verbiage in the resolution to ensure that families can be buried together, etc., while at the same time prohibiting bulk sales and more potential resales on the secondary market.

More laws for Colorado

Lawmakers in Colorado are continuing their crusade to protect consumers from crooked deathcare practitioners. The latest piece of legislation, which is awaiting the governor’s signature, will require funeral homes to carry at least $1 million in liability insurance and have a physical location that can be inspected. It adds strict rules for body handling, storage, and transportation and expands the types of licenses that can be obtained, adding cremation and natural organic reduction specialties.
