Eagle’s Wings Air, a logistics provider of air transportation management services for funeral homes and shipping providers, has expanded its international repatriation program. The company has appointed Helder Mendes as International Network Manager, adding air freight forwarding and Indirect Air Carrier capabilities to a program EWA has operated for more than 18 years.
Mendes is the founder and president of Indigo Logistics, a full-service air freight forwarder that worked alongside EWA on international repatriations over the past year. He will continue leading Indigo alongside his new role at EWA.
Background and Expertise
Mendes brings 16 years of air freight forwarding experience, focusing primarily on managing the air transport of human remains. He holds extensive knowledge of global airline networks, pricing structure, and transport requirements. Additionally, he serves as Indigo’s TSA Primary Security Coordinator and holds IATA certification and hazmat training.
“In my time working with the EWA team, we’ve overcome numerous challenges together in servicing our clients. What stood out was the close alignment in our approach. We address the same challenges in the same manner. For the funeral service professional, this means an international repatriation is handled the same as a domestic transfer; a single call connects the case to a team member who has already managed that airline routing,” said Mendes.
Operational Impact
The appointment adds new international airline options and departure airports nationwide to EWA’s network, giving the funeral service industry additional transport routes and cost-effective shipping options.
“A funeral director’s time belongs to the client family they are serving, not to the challenges associated with international air transportation of deceased loved ones. EWA has proudly served our profession for nearly twenty years. I admire the dedication and hard work of our forty team members. Helder is a great addition to the EWA family,” said David McComb, EWA co-founder and fourth-generation independent funeral home owner.
“Demand for our international repatriation services continues to grow. In response, we’ve taken concrete steps to strengthen the scope and capabilities of our international program. Helder is proven and capable to deliver global transportation solutions and, most importantly, understands the unique needs of the funeral service profession. I am honored to have him on the EWA team,” said Frank Kaiser, co-founder and President of Eagle’s Wings Air.
