We are excited to collaborate with Cold Hands and Monica Torres, renowned licensed funeral director, embalmer, cremationist, cosmetic reconstructive specialist, desairologist, and owner/founder of NXT Generation Mortuary Support! Every week Connecting Directors will now share “Cold Hands Embalming Tip of the Week,” which Monica posts each Sunday afternoon to her Instagram channel @coldhandshosts.
Cold Hands Embalming Tip of the Week: Here is my special “hand mix” for skin slip or hard case hand restoration
Hand restoration is as important as facial restoration. The hands and the face are typically the only parts of the body that the family sees at the funeral. Being a nail tech as well as a mortician, I pay special attention to how the hands look.
-I apply my goggles and gloves and appropriate PPE before working with these chemicals. I mix equal parts Edemaco, Basic Dryene and 50 Cav aka “the green death.” *
-Once the mix is created I then fill a syringe and hypo the areas that need attention. This tip works best if the body has time to rest “in state” overnight before cosmetics and restoration services are applied.
Beware: My “Hand Mix for Hard Cases” concoction is potent and high fuming. Place a towel under the hand before injecting. I focus on NOT over injecting. Less is always more.
-Aspirate the syringe before removing the needle from the skin to lower exposure in case of runoff.
*This is not an endorsement or ad. Contact your chemical rep before mixing chemicals.
