Selected’s 2024 NextGen Seminar Educates and Inspires

ATLANTIS PARADISE ISLAND, The Bahamas — February 5, 2024 — Selected Independent Funeral Homes held its 2024 NextGen Seminar from January 28–February 1. The event provided educational opportunities, networking and leisure for NextGen members in a resort setting.

The Seminar began with the announcement of the 2024 NextGen Professional of the Year Award, which was presented to Quinn Haisley-Wheeler; Director of Funeral Service Operations at Haisley Funeral & Cremation Service in Fort Pierce, Fla.

Participants enjoyed excellent educational sessions during the Seminar. John Meyer, Vice President of Information Technology at Buchanan Group, led the session, “What the Tech?” The session addressed how technology can be used to retain client families and build trust, even when day-to-day software management and processes seem overwhelming.

NextGen Advisory Group Co-Chairs Allison Lee; of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner, N.C.; and Will Haben; of Haben Funeral Home & Crematory in Skokie, Ill.; facilitated the “Next” Practices Exchange to round out the meeting’s agenda. This fast-paced session gave participants an opportunity to share ideas and lessons learned in funeral service.

The 2024 NextGen Seminar was sponsored in part by Kelco Supply Company. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the NextGen Community first and foremost because of the profound friendships we’ve gained with the members,” said Alicia Carr, Kelco’s President and CEO. “Being an integral part of the dialog and listening to the challenges that younger generations of funeral directors are facing gets our minds revolving around how we can adapt our business practices and technologies to meet the needs of all generations in funeral service.”

Selected Independent Funeral Homes created the NextGen Community to develop young funeral professionals as well as assist those new to the profession. Offering high praise for the group, Allison Lee said, “The NextGen Community at Selected has provided peer support for us that we don’t have in our own community.”
