Cold Hands Embalming Tip of the Week: Create a Lasting Memory by Spraying a Personal Scent on Grandpa’s Casket Lining

Utilize the deceased’s favorite cologne, perfume or body spray to create a positive lasting memory for the family.

It’s simple and adds such a special touch to the art! There are many subtle ways to make the viewing memorable in a good way for families. Here is one of my favs!

Pro Tip: Simply spritz the pillow, casket lining, casket throw and also the clothing of the deceased. When spritzing the deceased focus on areas of fabric near the hands such as the cuffs and right and left lapel.

Pro Tip: I try to initiate not just the olfactory senses during the viewing but all of the 5 human senses. *The olfactory sense is one of the sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell (olfactory sense).

Why do I focus on the cuffs and the lapel?

I have noticed over the year that families will often put their hand on their loved ins hand or the right lapel while standing at the edge of the casket so I like for them to leave with lingering scent of their beloved. This is just a small way to take help make a scary, strange and unfamiliar experience comforting.

Can you name some ways to create a lasting memory with one of these senses during a funeral??

Today’s guest tipster is LFD Tom Sproles. I dedicate this post to Tom’s grandpa who inspired todays tip. Tom says he often finds himself strolling in the cologne section at the grocery store where he stops to take a moment to go down memory lane by opening up a bottle of this aftershave that reminds him of his granddad.
