Passages International Introduces Fair Trade Certified Repurposed Wood Urns

New Urns from the Leader in Eco-Friendly Funeral Products Use Sustainable Materials

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Passages International, the leader in eco-friendly and sustainable funeral products, has released two brand-new Repurposed Wood Urns in the Traditional and Tribute styles. Both Repurposed Wood Urns are made from repurposed paulownia wood, one of the world’s fastest-growing trees, which is both biodegradable and sustainably sourced. A natural beeswax coat is applied, and no toxic adhesives or finishes are used. These urns are suitable for placement in the home or in a cemetery niche. They can also be buried in the earth, where they will naturally biodegrade over time.

These urns are certified Fair Trade by Traidcraft, verifying not only their environmental friendliness, but that the producers are paid fairly, have opportunities for education and health checks at work, and have a safe work environment.

“Brickwork mosaics have become extremely popular in every design arena. I am thrilled to launch this contemporary product to appeal to those with a nod to design and an eye firmly on the environment,” said Passages International President Darren Crouch. “Additionally, the Repurposed Urns fit perfectly into our mantra of reduce, reuse, and recycle.”

Biodegradable urns are the ideal solution for today’s funeral family who wants cremation and likely plans to scatter ashes, but still values the dignity of the funeral process. According to the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), an estimated 57.5% of families in 2021 selected cremation, and KB Publications data found that 50% or more of families who choose cremation go on to scatter the remains. Scattering is one of the most popular forms of final disposition, and a biodegradable urn for scattering is a better vessel than a non-biodegradable plastic or metal box, purpose-built for the occasion.
