Selected Independent Funeral Homes Gathered in Nashville for 2019 Annual Meeting

Deerfield, Ill. – More than 300 members and guests of Selected Independent Funeral Homes gathered at the JW Marriott Resort in Nashville for the Association’s 2019 Annual Meeting on September 23-26.

With a focus on leadership and staffing, the experience featured numerous educational opportunities plus the chance to reconnect with friends and develop new relationships. The event included a variety of presentations and activities such as: how to adapt to change; informal discussions with Selected’s Preferred Partners; tapping into the power of staff engagement; how to raise the bar in recruiting and interviewing; association updates including the induction of the new Board President Arthur Erickson and Secretary Treasurer, Jake Johnson, plus new Board members Robert Nunnaley and Josh Blake.

In addition, Stevens Mortuary, Inc., Altoona, PA was inducted into Selected’s Century Club, an elite group of members that have earned 100 years of continuous membership. Firms achieving 50 and 75 years of continuous membership also were recognized, including:

The Annual Meeting also gave all attending members an opportunity to complete the Community Service Project sponsored by Homesteaders Life Company. Selected members packed backpacks with school supplies and created sets of flash cards and inspirational notes for students attending Metro Nashville Public Schools, part of an LP PENCIL Box Program.

“Selected appreciates the sponsorship of Homesteaders and also PENCIL for its help in getting these items to students and families of these schools,” said Patty Neuswanger, Member Engagement Director at Selected. “Nearly 400 backpacks were assembled and will be distributed on Thursday, October 17, at Fall Hamilton Elementary school.”

Next year’s Annual Meeting will be held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on September 30 to October 3, 2020.
