WALL, N.J. – The Cremation Association of North America in cooperation with Kates-Boylston Publications encourages all funeral professionals to attend the Crematory Operations Certification Conference on May 16, 2014, at the Hilton Baltimore – and if you sign up by Feb. 28, you can save $100.

“This conference gives owners and operators all the tools they need to improve cremation operations, boost market share and avoid problems with families, attorneys and regulators,” said Thomas A. Parmalee, executive director of Kates-Boylston Publications. “We want to spread the word to as many people as possible now so our customers have the opportunity to take advantage of the early-bird rate.”

Chris Farmer, general counsel of CANA, said he’s continuing to see lawsuits filed that involve cremation, and they can be devastating. “That’s why you need to get certified,” he said. “I’m going to do everything in my power to show attendees what they can do to avoid lawsuits and document the right things so they can defend themselves when problems arise.”

In addition to Farmer, who has managed a large international docket of state and federal funeral home and cemetery matters including professional liability, negligence, intentional acts, and deceptive trade practice claims, you’ll also learn from:

Ron Salvatore, a certified crematory operator trainer who has been with Matthews Cremation Division for more than 20 years. He’s trained more than 2,000 crematory personnel in the proper operation and maintenance of cremation equipment. He also works closely with Matthews’ engineering department on new product development, development, environmental permitting and various environmental issues.

Mark Matthews, president of Wiefels Cremation and Funeral Services in Palm Springs, with seven locations in southern California, is licensed by the state of California as a funeral director, cemetery manager and crematory manager. Matthews is a past president of the Cremation Association of North America and recently completed a term as president of the Association of California Cremationists. He is a subject matter expert for the California Department of Consumer Affairs Cemetery and Funeral Bureau, founding president of Diocese of San Bernardino Cemetery Corp. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery, and is highly regarded as an innovative and creative business owner.
