The Funeral Service Foundation (FSF) awarded five scholarships for attendance at the 2013 NFDA Professional Women’s Conference, held April 26-28 in Greenville, S.C.

Recipients of the 2013 honors were Anna Bell, Century, Fla., an apprentice at Trahan Family Funeral Home in Pensacola, Fla., who attends Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham , Ala.; Krystal Calderon, Dallas, Texas, apprentice funeral director who attends Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science, Dallas; Shawntae Nixon, Charlotte, N.C.,  mortuary science student at Fayetteville Technical Community College, Fayetteville, N.C.; Erin Theodor, Funeral Director and Embalmer at Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home in Hamilton, Ohio; and Lisa Valentine, mortuary science student at Worsham College of Mortuary Science, Wheeling, Ill.

“Supporting the Professional Women’s Conference has long been a priority of the Funeral Service Foundation,” FSF Executive Director Kathy Wisnefski said.  “This conference gives women from across the profession the chance to network and learn from one another as well as the outstanding speakers that provide continuing education credits. The Funeral Service Foundation is pleased to provide Professional Women’s Conference scholarships to these five outstanding women.”

Recipients were recognized by FSF Executive Director Kathy Wisnefski at an awards luncheon on April 27.  Biographies of the scholarship winners are posted on FSF’s website, www.funeralservicefoundation.org.

This year’s Funeral Service Foundation Professional Women’s Conference scholarships were made possible through the generous support of Deaton-Kennedy, Messenger, Nomis Publications, and Wilbert Funeral Services Inc. Foundation Partners Group sponsored the FSF Fund Event, “Art with Heart,” a pre-conference program that supports both the Professional Women’s Conference scholarships and the FSF Women’s Fund.

Applications for scholarships to attend the 2014 NFDA Professional Women’s Conference in Atlanta-Buckhead, Ga., will be available from FSF in early-2014.

The Funeral Service Foundation funds projects and programs supporting all of funeral service in building meaningful relationships in the community.  For more information, visit www.funeralservicefoundation.org.
