On Saturday, June 18, a ceremony was held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topkea, Kan., to dedicate Carroll Ray “Dink” Mothell’s grave memorial. Mothell, a player in Negro Leagues Baseball and a star for the Kansas City Monarchs, has been buried in an unmarked grave for over 30 years at Mount Hope.
The Society for American Baseball Research Negro Leagues committee has been working to get memorials placed for players since 2004. Their efforts, led by Jeremy Krock, were recently featured on an ESPN segment.
Trigard Memorials donated, designed and manufactured the bronze memorial to honor Mothell. To learn more about the Negro Leagues Baseball Grave Marker Project or donate, visit www.NLBGMP.com. Learn more about Trigard Memorials at www.trigardmemorials.com.
