imageRemembrance Codes use 2-D barcodes to link a physical memorial or headstone to the deceased individual’s online obituary. By scanning the barcode using any smart phone, family members can access the obituary and tributes without typing or remembering the web address.

Funeral Innovations, a leading web software company in the funeral industry, has announced an entirely unique approach to memorializing a life lived. Their new product, Remembrance Codes, is a patent pending technology that allows family or friends to visit an online memorial from any smart phone, without typing or even remembering the web address.

?The Remembrance Code raises the bar in family service and memorialization, but more importantly, ensures that every life lived will be preserved and remembered forever,? said co-founder Greg Young.

On the surface, the Remembrance Code provides a family utmost personalization through a unique and beautiful glass keepsake that displays a fingerprint, signature, and even incorporates the deceased individual?s favorite color. The magic happens courtesy of a 2-D bar-code displayed on each glass Remembrance Code; when scanned with any smart phone, it automatically opens the associated online memorial within the funeral home?s website. Behind the scenes, an algorithm is used to ensure the online memorial is displayed forever even if the associated funeral home is no longer in business.

The Remembrance Code will be available as a keepsake for the family, as well as an option to be attached to the foundation of a monument or bronze memorial at a cemetery.

“Just imagine walking through a cemetery and scanning your distant relatives? Remembrance Code to instantly explore their life lived. This is a very exciting technology that opens an entirely new revenue stream by offering a unique service to current, future and even past families we have served. Most importantly, it gives us a competitive advantage over local monument companies and maintains our funeral home’s website as the focal point.” said Scott Erickson, a funeral director at Foster Funeral Home.

The Remembrance Codes are a continuation of Funeral Innovation?s dedication to helping funeral homes take control of their obituaries and drive traffic to their websites. It will be released to select funeral homes beginning March 1, 2011 with a release to all funeral homes coming later this year.
