imageThe National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) Policy Board met on July 10 in Cambridge, Md., and elected Bob Arrington of Arrington Funeral Directors in Jackson, Tenn., and Robert C. Moore, IV, CFSP, of Moore’s Home for Funerals in Wayne, N.J., to serve as at-large representatives to the association?s Executive Board. They will begin their two-year terms of service immediately following the 2010 NFDA International Convention & Expo, October 10-13 in New Orleans, La.

Arrington became interested in funeral service when his grandfather died in 1963. His neighbor owned a funeral home, and he spent time there helping out after school and on weekends. After completing mortuary science school, he received his funeral directors license in 1978, and his embalmers license in 1979. In 1995, he founded Arrington Funeral Directors. In 1997, Arrington added a crematory to his funeral home; in 2003, he purchased two cemeteries. In 2006, Arrington added Covington Funeral Home and Magnolia Gardens Cemetery to his business.

Arrington has served his profession by taking on leadership roles with the Tennessee Funeral Directors Association (TFDA) and NFDA. He has served on numerous TFDA committees and the association?s Board of Directors; his service on the TFDA Board of Directors included terms as secretary/treasurer, vice president and president. He is currently serving as TFDA?s immediate past president and is the state?s representative to NFDA?s Policy Board. Arrington currently chair?s NFDA?s Governance Work Group. He is also a member of The Heritage Club, a supporter of the NFDA Political Action Committee and served as Tennessee?s fundraising chair for the Funeral Service Foundation.

Moore is a fourth generation funeral director who has worked at his family?s firm since 1979, when he graduated from the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service. He became manager of Moore?s Home for Funerals in 2004, and a co-owner in 2006. In addition to licensure in New Jersey, Moore has a limited funeral directors license in Pennsylvania, has been certified as an eye enucleation technician for the Eye Bank Foundation of New Jersey and is a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner.

Moore has shown a commitment to his profession through his service to the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association (NJSFDA) and NFDA. In addition to serving on numerous committees, Moore has held the offices of president, immediate past president, president-elect, first vice president and second vice president of NJSFDA. On a national level, he is serving as New Jersey?s representative to the NFDA Policy Board. He is a current member of NFDA?s Spokesperson Team, Member Resources Advisory Group and Task Force for Policy Board Study. He is a past member of NFDA?s Multicultural Membership Advisory Group, Public Relations Subcommittee and Website Resource Group.

Arrington and Moore will replace current NFDA At-large Representatives J. Michael Krill, CFSP, of Krill Funeral Service in Edgerton, Ohio, and Robert L. Bates, CFSP, of Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas. Bates is a declared candidate for the position of secretary on NFDA?s Executive Board.
