A Mistress, Gunshots and Casket Drop: 40 Funeral Directors Tell Us About Their Worst Day On The Job

Just when we think we have heard it all – we decided to ask 6,400 funeral directors the question; What is the worst thing that has ever happened to you on a funeral or while serving a family? Some of these stories will blow your mind.

The stories we heard were never expected! Like these:

I did a service for a middle aged husband and father. At the graveside a women around the sons age approached the widow, holding a young child and introduced herself as the mistress and child of the deceased. I broke up the fight just before the widow pushed the mistress and the child into the open grave. If that wasn’t awful enough the widow then came back a few days later to request that we change the name on the very expensive, beautiful marker she had ordered to “Asshole”.

Had two stretch limos behind me in the coach when I used the map ( not updated ) that the cemetery gave me, went to turn the corner around the mausoleum when BAM large dumpster blocking roadway with nowhere to go. Had to back everyone out including the two stretch limos. Then one that happened during arrangements, wife wanted time with husband before he was put in the casket, we gave it to her. We walked around the corner and she was uhmmm… Down there.
