The National Funeral Directors & Morticians Association, Inc., in partnership with the Georgia Funeral Service Practitioners Association, invites you to join them on Sunday, October 27, 2013 in Atlanta for the “Funeral Directors Against Violence Rally & Ride for Peace.”

A motorcade of hearses and motorcycles will form at 1:00PM with the solemn procession beginning at 2:00PM from the Greater Springfield Baptist Church, 721 Jones Avenue, NW, Atlanta in route to the Hilton Atlanta Airport Hotel, 1031 Virginia Avenue, Atlanta, where the Rally for Peace will be held. Greater Springfield is located in downtown Atlanta on the corner of Jones Avenue & Griffin Avenue, in an area infested with crime. The rally will feature several guest speakers and groups, including prominent Atlanta trial attorney and native Mawuli Mel Davis of the Davis|Bozeman Law Firm. Attorney Davis has a profound story that we hope will strike the core of those in attendance to take a stand against the senseless violence and killings that are happening in our nation today. Other speakers to include, national officers of the National Funeral Directors & Morticians Association, Inc., Dr. Carol Williams, CFSP, Executive Director, Ms. Jayme D. Jeter-Cameron, CFSP, National President, Mrs. Marie A. W. Gooslby, CFSP, President of the Georgia Funeral Service Practitioners Association and other national & community leaders. Also in attendance will be families of those killed by gun violence in the Metropolitan Atlanta Area. Local funeral homes from throughout Atlanta and the suburbs, the state of Georgia and surrounding areas will participate in the procession and rally.

“The sight of a motorcade of 150 funeral hearses and 300 motorcycles driving through the community may make some people uncomfortable, but what should make them more uncomfortable is the continual gun violence that has become so prevalent throughout our communities. This issue has to be addressed,” stated Gloria Driver, Board Member of the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, Inc.

The National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, Inc. (NFD&MA, Inc.) has represented funeral directors and embalmers primarily of African American descent for over 89 years. We have members throughout the United States, the Caribbean, Canada and Africa. Our association was formed out of the need for African American funeral service professionals to have a unified voice concerning our occupation. At the time NFD&MA, Inc. was established, many state and national funeral service organizations did not admit persons of color for membership.
