To Write With a Broken Pencil is Pointless
If the message we send is not received the way we intended it to be received or if it has not been sent the way in which we intended to send it regardless of the care we put into sending it to the intended recipient and ?.
What the hell am I saying? I give up! You tell me!
Let me simplify.
Communication is one of the most important things we have to master if we are to be called great funeral communicators. Funeral home communicators know that effective communication is important to operating a successful business. Whether the message is intended for consumers or staff, everyone benefits from communication skills. Regardless of what size business you are in ? a large corporation, a small company, or even a home-based business ? effective communication skills are essential for success. We all need to haveabetterunderstandingofhowtocommunicateeffectively ? to individuals and groups, via spoken communications, written communications, and even electronic communications.
Just a minute! In the above paragraph I used the word Communication ten times in five sentences. I fear I repeat myself and ? too late ? everyone has moved on to Ron Rosenberg?s blog ? ah well ? he?s probably a really nice guy ?
If there is anyone left out there ? let me apologise for the above, but I merely want to make a point. If you try too hard to get your message across you will surely fail. I could have made my point with one or two clear and well written sentences.
If you are communicating with your public through advertising you must keep the story simple and make it interesting. Don?t try to touch on too many points in one ad. Just like the preacher with the sermon that is too long, you risk putting your public to sleep. Don?t feel you have to weed the whole garden in one day. Tend to the corn now and leave the carrots and beets for another day. Focus on Preplanning today – Reasonable Cremation Costs can be featured tomorrow. If you approach your ads in a simple manner you will see better results.
If you are communicating internally with your staff, use the same premise but fine-tune it with personalization. If there is a course available on improving your communication skills ? take it. If you can?t attend, send staff members who meet the public. You will still be the winner.
What would you rather attend, the seminar on better communication or the seminar on how to identify stress induced illness? Reduce your chances of needing the latter by embracing the former. Sharpen up your broken pencil. Sharpen up your communication skills.
