Reinventing Obituaries: Trend Shows Signs of Becoming an Avalanche

I don’t think I have seen anything come on as fast as this obituary thing.  It started in a few isolated spots maybe 4 or 5 years ago.  Then it began showing up a little bit more regularly.

Later I came across a video of a panel discussion at The New York Public Library.  A few weeks ago I encountered a story about the Toronto Star sending 15 reporters to cover the funeral of an “ordinary” person.

NOW…now, people are showing up to run their obituary before they die.  In fact, before they are even sick.

I am telling you, Dear Funeral Director, this is an opportunity you need to be in front of or you will be behind it wondering what happened.

Interesting. I’ve always liked the idea of writing your own obit. I just don’t think I would want to submit it before I was gone.
