UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio ? An avid Buckeye fan’s final sendoff Saturday went off just like Duncan Campbell would have wanted.

Friends and loved ones of the man affectionately known as Butch held a celebration of life and the Scarlet and Gray in his honor at Schoedinger Funeral Home in Upper Arlington.

Butch’s family told 10TV News reporter Tanisha Mallett deciding to hold a tailgate for him was an easy decision.

“We go to a lot of funerals where they talk about celebration of life but nothing is better than this! This is a terrific celebration of life,” declared Campbell’s nephew, Jeff Logan.

Relatives said the Ohio State University graduate lived life to the fullest and loved being a Buckeye fan. According to Campbell’s son, Saturday’s tailgate was something his dad would have loved to have been a part of.

“He would get in the food line right away. He would get himself a brat,” Chris Campbell said.

Everything from the menu of game-day fare to the roses on the tables was supposed to be a way to share the dearly departed’s love for OSU football with those who came to say goodbye.

“To have roses on the table, to have roses on my lapel today means Butch will not let Iowa beat Ohio State today,” Logan said.

Butch Campbell’s family told 10TV he had recently celebrated 50-year alumnus status with the University, and he would have ben thrilled with what they did for him Saturday.
