NFDA Leadership Conference: Building Skills to Make a Difference

Brookfield, Wis. – State and national funeral service associations are fortunate to have dedicated volunteers and leaders serving on boards, committees and work groups. Funeral professionals who want to enhance their leadership skills to make a positive difference in their associations and the profession should attend the 2017 National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) Leadership Conference, which will take place July 16-19 at the spectacular Coeur d’Alene Resort in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

For this year’s conference, NFDA will turn its attention to important issues funeral service associations must tackle in 2017 and beyond.

Conference attendees will hear from respected association management expert Glenn Tecker, who is making his return to the NFDA Leadership Conference; he will help board members and association executives develop strategies for successfully overcoming the challenges they face in leading a thriving organization.

On Wednesday, the final day of the conference, attendees will participate in an important discussion, Critical Issue: A 50 State View of the Opioid Epidemic. Funeral directors face many serious issues related to opiates and other substance abuse in their businesses and communities. An expert panel will provide critical information and ideas for confronting this matter from the funeral director’s perspective. This is a must-attend session.

The Leadership Conference wouldn’t be complete without the popular “Breakout by Office” discussions during which association officers and executives talk about challenges they face in their roles and share strategies for success.

Attendees will explore the ways in which the proposed changes to the NFDA Bylaws – which association members will vote on in August – will strengthen NFDA and its relationship with state associations and members.

During Ship to Shore: An Evening of Dining & Lake Cruising, attendees will enjoy a fun, family-friendly evening on Lake Coeur d’Alene. Guests will board a boat and enjoy refreshments while cruising in style to the Hagadone Center. At the Hagadone Center, which features magnificent lake views, attendees will delight in a delicious buffet dinner with family, friends and colleagues. After dinner, attendees will return to the boat for a relaxing hour-long cruise around the lake before returning to port. (Optional event; registration required.)

Before the Leadership Conference starts, attendees can join colleagues for a round of golf on the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course, which was once described as America’s Most Beautiful Resort Golf Course by Golf Digest. There is nothing ordinary about The Coeur d’Alene Golf Course, which features breathtaking lake views from nearly every hole and one of the best-known icons in golf – the famous “Floating Green” on the 14th hole. (Optional event; registration required.)

In addition to valuable educational programs, attendees will have plenty of time to explore everything the Coeur d’Alene Resort offers. With so much to see and do, this one-of-a kind venue is a perfect place for attendees to relax and reconnect with family and friends. There’s something for everyone to do in the “Playground of the Northwest”: kayaking and whitewater rafting; lake cruises; swimming, relaxing spa services; premium shopping; hiking; swimming; fabulous dining; and much more.

Attendees can register online at nfda.org/leadership or by calling NFDA at 800-228-6332.
