Foundation Partners Group Expands to Portland, OR

Funeral Homes, Cemeteries & Cremation Centers in Oregon Latest to Join FPG

Foundation Partners Group (FPG), a leading provider of innovative funeral, cemetery and cremation experiences and products, has announced the acquisition of several premier locations in the Portland, OR area. The new locations are Wilhelm’s Portland Memorial Funeral Home, the Portland Memorial Mausoleum, Heritage Memorial, Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes, Sunnyside Chimes Memorial Garden, Oregon Cremation Company, Valley Memorial Park and Valley Memorial Funeral Home.

“We are excited to build on our presence in the Pacific Northwest with these incredible locations and establish our first operational base in Oregon,” stated Brad Rex, FPG President and CEO.   “David Schroeder and Michael Ashe are well-known and well-respected throughout funeral service and highly regarded for their exceptional operational skill set.  We look forward to their involvement in growing the Foundation Partners Group network in Oregon and surrounding states.”

“Throughout my career in funeral service, I have been privileged to have been associated with a number of outstanding companies,” commented David Schroeder.  “I look forward to being a part of Foundation Partners Group as we continue to transform the funeral profession.”

“Providing service with reverence, dignity, honor and respect has been our hallmark throughout the organization,” stated Michael Ashe.  “The vast resources and proprietary service offerings available from Foundation Partners Group will allow us to uphold and build upon the high standards of professional care we have traditionally provided the families in Oregon.”

The Portland Memorial Mausoleum began as Portland Cremation Association, forming the Pacific Northwest’s first cremation association in 1901.  Their historically significant mausoleum encompasses two and a half city blocks, is eight stories high and is one of the largest indoor cemeteries in the Pacific Northwest. The mausoleum features several Italian marble sculptures, including an exact replica of Michelangelo’s Pieta, Tiffany glass and the Rae Room, a private mausoleum tomb constructed in the 1930’s for one time lumber baron George Rae and his wife, Elizabeth. It is widely considered a genealogical treasure, with more than 90,000 memorials.

In 2008, Schroeder and Ashe merged the mausoleum with Wilhelm’s Funeral Home.  In 2010, in partnership with the community, they unveiled the largest hand-painted outdoor mural in the United States depicting the Oaks Bottom Wetlands Wildlife area on the exterior walls of the building.

“With this opportunity, we have found an incredible partner who shares our vision and passion for being a leading provider of best-in-class funeral, cemetery and cremation experiences and products,” stated Justin Baxley, Senior Vice President of Business Development at FPG.  “The Portland properties provide a wonderful foundation as we expand our operations in the Pacific Northwest.”
