Ocala Community Offered an Opportunity to Heal by Hiers-Baxley

Memorial Affords Marion County Residents a Chance to Begin the Grief Journey

As members of the Ocala community struggle to make sense of the events from the shooting in Orlando on June 12, Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services has provided an outlet for residents to remember the victims. On June 15, a memorial tribute banner was erected in Highland Memorial Park on the city’s near east side.

“While the candlelight vigil held for the Orlando Pulse nightclub victims on June 15 at the Ocala downtown square was the most visible way our Ocala community began the healing process, we at Hiers-Baxley want to offer an additional means to remember the victims,” said Justin Baxley of Hiers-Baxley.

People throughout Marion County have been invited to stop by Highland Memorial Park from dawn until dusk daily to share their thoughts and memories. The 4-foot by 8-foot banner will remain at the cemetery through June 30.

“We want everyone to be able to come, whenever their schedule allows, to pay their respects and share their grief at this difficult time,” commented Barbara Carbaugh, Community Outreach Manager, Hiers-Baxley. “Our hope is that by creating this memorial, we help our community begin the healing process.”
