In the months leading up to his passing, René Angélil did everything he could to ease Céline Dion’s pain. Not only did René, who lost his lengthy battle with throat cancer on Thursday, encourage his wife to keep working, but he also helped her plan his funeral.

“René was generous enough to prepare all of this since the last few months with Céline,” Dion’s stylist and friend, Annie Horth told People. “He didn’t know when it would happen, but he really wanted everything to be already prepared.”

Now, Céline, whose brother also died of cancer this week, is “going through [this] peacefully and with control,” Horth explained.

The confidante adds that besides dying in Céline’s arms, Angélil’s one wish was for his funeral to be held at Notre-Dame Basilica, where he and Céline were wed.

“He obviously wanted to have his funeral where he married the love of his life.”
