New Book That Helps Family and Friends Grieving After a Military Death Now Available

Fort Collins, CO…Companion Press announces the publication of Healing Your Grieving Heart After a Military Death: 100 Practical Ideas for Families and Friends co-authored by retired military officer and bereaved military spouse Bonnie Carroll and renowned grief counselor and educator Alan D. Wolfelt, Ph.D.

This new book is one of the few to focus on the unique grief that follows a military death, whether as a result of hostile action, accident, illness, or suicide. Families and friends may be traumatized by the sudden and often violent loss. Military processes and culture also have an effect on their grief.

The book was created in conjunction with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, or TAPS—a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to helping grieving families in the aftermath of a military death.

Bonnie Carroll founded TAPS following the death of her husband in an Army plane crash. Currently the President of TAPS, she has also served in political appointments in the White House, as White House liaison to the VA, in Baghdad as Deputy Senior Advisor to the Iraq Ministry of Communications, and on many Department of Defense and VA boards and taskforces. Educator and grief counselor Dr. Alan Wolfelt serves as Director of the Center for Loss and Life Transition in Fort Collins, Colorado. He is the author of many bestselling books on grief and loss.

Companion Press is dedicated to the education and support of both the bereaved and bereavement caregivers. It specializes in publishing resources for mourners and grief caregivers, including books, pamphlets, and videotapes. Companion Press is the publishing imprint of the Center for Loss and Life Transition.
