Network With Colleagues While Enjoying Midwestern Hospitality During the 2015 NFDA International Convention & Expo
Brookfield, Wis. – Those who attend the National Funeral Directors Association’s (NFDA) 2015 International Convention & Expo, which will be held October 18-21 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Ind., can enhance their experience by reconnecting with old friends and making new ones during exclusive social and networking events. The events, which were specially planned for Convention attendees, will give them a chance to see why Indy was named a top convention city by USA Today and earned a spot on New York Times’ list of “52 Places to Go in the World” in 2014.
For the eighth year in a row, NFDA Convention attendees will give back to their host city by volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. On Saturday, October 17, volunteers will help build a home for an Indianapolis family in need. Whether attendees are home improvement experts or have never swung a hammer in their life, all are welcome to volunteer at the build site. Funeral professionals who aren’t able to help at the build site can support Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity by making a monetary donation or by becoming a sponsor.
The 15th annual Funeral Service Foundation Golf Classic will take place on Sunday, October 18. The Brickyard Crossing Golf Course combines the excitement of auto racing with the natural beauty of a championship course. One of the few venues in the country to host PGA, LPGA and Champions tour events, Brickyard Crossing is a “bucket list” golf course. The Pete Dye-designed golf course boasts a four-hole stretch inside the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Golf Classic draws together funeral directors and allied professionals who are committed to supporting the Funeral Service Foundation’s mission to fund projects and programs that support all of funeral service in building meaningful relationships in the community.
NFDA President Rob Moore and Pat Moore invite attendees to join them on Sunday, October 18 for the Welcome Party at the Indiana State Museum. Spanning three levels, the Indiana State Museum’s collection contains hundreds of thousands of items ranging from prehistoric fossils to current popular culture items and everything in between. History buffs will love discovering Indiana’s secrets through hands-on exhibits that explore the state’s diverse history. There is no charge for this event, but attendees must pick up an event ticket when they check in at the Convention registration desk.
Celebrate your fellow funeral directors who have achieved more this year at the All-Star Recognition Ceremony on Monday, October 19. Join fellow Convention attendees as NFDA recognizes funeral professionals who are NFDA Certified Crematory Operators, NFDA Certified Preplanning Consultants and APFSP Certified Funeral Service Practitioners. NFDA will also recognize funeral homes that are 2014 NFDA Pursuit of Excellence Award recipients – including Best of the Best Award Recipients and 2014 Hall of Excellence Inductees – and NFDA Green Funeral Practice Certificate holders.
In April 1865, the nation was in mourning following the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. His funeral procession slowly left Washington, D.C., by train, setting out on a three-week journey that would take his remains home, to Springfield, Ill. As the train made its way from town to town, communities along the route gathered to mourn and pay tribute to their revered leader. On Tuesday, October 20, 150 years later, NFDA Convention attendees will gather for the annual Service of Remembrance to pay solemn tribute to the 16th President of the United States, with all the reverence and ceremony befitting one of the greatest leaders in our history, and honor the memory of colleagues and family members who have died.
Join fellow attendees and raise a beer stein at The Rathskeller for the Funeral Directors Under 40 Party on Tuesday, October 20. Set in the historic, 19th century Athenaeum Building in downtown Indianapolis, The Rathskeller is quaint Bavarian inn meets lively Munich beer hall. Attendees have exclusive access to the Upper Ballroom at this Indy hot spot and will enjoy an unforgettable evening of entertainment, great beer and German-style fun. A ticket is required and includes one beer flight – a sampling of five German brews – and heavy appetizers.
2015-16 NFDA President Bob Arrington and Judy Arrington are taking the NFDA Convention into “overtime.” Together, attendees will celebrate the conclusion of convention at The Fifth Quarter at Lucas Oil Stadium – home of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts and Super Bowl 2012 – the evening of Wednesday, October 21. Guests will enjoy music, a variety of food stations and a cash bar. Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite NFL team jersey and bring their end zone dance moves to this once-in-a-lifetime experience. A ticket is required for this event.
Additionally, NFDA has arranged exclusive tours and excursions to help attendees get to know the host city of Indianapolis. Convention guests will register for city tours through Accent Indy.
Complete details about special events and tours can be found by visiting the Convention website, www.nfda.org/indy2015, and clicking on the “Events/Tours” tab.
Attendees should note that while some events are complimentary and do not require them to register in advance, others do require advance registration.
